Resource Description
Online learning has arrived, and it is not going away. The accessibility of the Internet provides a great opportunity to distribute learning to widely spread audiences in a way that can capture the advantages of a structured, relational classroom.
Introduction to Teaching Online is a course for those considering creating and teaching an online course using material from an existing face-to-face learning resource or new material. The course spends four weeks exploring both the theory and the practice of envisioning, planning, and creating an online course. Also included is a brief introduction to the theory and practice of facilitating an online course as well as some practice facilitation activities.
Built on Experience
In 2006, Grow2Serve started its first foray into learning about and presenting online learning to others. One of our earliest resources was this Introduction to Teaching Online course, which has helped both Grow2Serve staff and many individuals from our partner organizations begin the journey of understanding the nuances of online learning. Since then, dozens of Grow2Serve courses have been developed by those who started their journey with this Introduction to Teaching Online course.
Estimated Time Commitment
4 weeks of 5 hours per week. At the beginning of the first week, one hour of course orientation material will be presented. Please note that for maximum learning impact in this course, a learner will spend 60-90 minutes working on the course material on 4-5 separate days each week. Some of the course work will involve reading, writing, listening and watching on the computer.
